The Symbolic Strands series is a series of beaded necklaces inspired by a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum with one of my daughters in April, where we saw incredible handcrafted necklaces from the 4th Dynasty of Egypt, circa 2613 to 2694 BC. As someone who deeply loves jewelry for its symbolism, meaning, and beauty; it was incredibly moving to see hand work that is over 4000 years old and more beautiful today than ever.
Each of the necklaces in this series was created by hand, incorporating 14 karat yellow gold charms and tiny high grade beads. This one features a tiny sunburst, handcrafted using ancient goldsmithing techniques and paired with 3-4mm natural, freshwater rice pearls.
The sun is symbolic of the divine spark and the great wheel of life: the sun rises and sets; creates the turning seasons, represents the endless cycles of creation and destruction, and is the source of all life on earth.
Pearl is the birthstone for June and symbolizes purity and sincerity. Metaphysically, it's associated with faith, charity, and innocence, and is believed to bring enhanced focus and personal integrity to the wearer.
This necklace is choker length and measures approx. 15 inches from end to end and closes with a hand-forged hook clasp in 14 karat gold. Strung on metal wire. If you would like a longer necklace, you may add a 3 inch extender chain. All 14 karat gold components are post consumer recycled.
